Dunedin Police have been called in to investigate death threats made against controversial netball coach Norma Plummer.
The threats were understood to be made by a New Zealand fan and were serious enough for Australian authorities to contact local police in advance of Plummer travelling to the city with her West Coast Fever side for the weekend's transtasman league game against the Southern Steel.
The Herald is unaware of the specific nature of the threats but understands that Plummer was sufficiently shaken up by the sinister tone, forcing the team to beef-up security.
The team left the stadium swiftly after their one-goal loss to the Steel, missing a post-match function.
A spokeswoman from New Zealand Police Southern District would not comment on where they are at with their investigations but confirmed "that it has received information from the Australian authorities in relation to this and the matter is ongoing".
