Two classic match-ups feature on the opening day of the national championships in Dunedin today.
The 24-team tournament will spark into life with Otago playing Canterbury and Southland playing Auckland.
The Canterbury match will mark former international Belinda Colling's first big challenge since returning to the sport in the hope of making the Commonwealth Games squad next year.
Her clash with Silver Ferns and Otago defender Anna Scarlett could make or break her chances of Games selection.
Otago coach Nicola Jones is in no doubt about the difference Colling will make to Canterbury's chances.
"Belinda is a very talented netballer. It is just whether the players around her utilise the skills that she has got," Jones said.
"Last year I think Canterbury were probably under strength, with a number of players not being available, and still performed well."
The other player Otago are wary of is Canterbury captain Vilimaina Davu.
Davu has a wealth of experience, with 44 test caps for the Silver Ferns and another 55 caps for Fiji.
Despite getting such a tough match first up, Jones was putting a positive spin on the draw.
"It is a good game to get leading in. Your body is a lot fresher and your mind's fresh," she said.
Otago and Canterbury met in a warm-up match this month in Temuka, which Otago won 45-40.
In earlier round one matches, Otago beat Counties-Manukau and Wellington lost to North Harbour 55-40.
Canterbury beat Wellington and Western but also lost to North Harbour 40-36.
The other match today will see Southland's Lesley Rumball and Adine Wilson up against Auckland's Anna Rowberry and Victoria Edward. All are current or ex-Silver Ferns and all want a spot in the Commonwealth Games squad.
Auckland are unbeaten in round one after big wins over Bay of Plenty, Tasman and Eastern.
Southland beat Eastern and Bay of Plenty but lost to Waikato 43-60.
