KEY POINTS:
Jamaican captain Elaine Davis has received a bonus before heading to New Zealand for her fourth and final world championship - in the form of a half-million dollar cheque.
Davis won the Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence, named in honour of the former West Indies cricket captain, for displaying "a high level of humility, integrity, discipline and other exemplary qualities while excelling in the field of sports".
While it may sound like Davis, a university student, could now retire from netball in comfort, $500,000 Jamaican converts to about $9000 New Zealand. Davis described the honour as "icing on the coffee cake".
