KEY POINTS:
LONDON - Australia banged another dent in world champions New Zealand's confidence with a 50-47 win in their netball test in Birmingham tonight.
Shooter Sharelle McMahon shot 24 goals as Australia trumped their arch-rivals, boosting hopes of winning November's world championships in New Zealand.
Australian captain Liz Ellis said the manner of the victory provides "a massive amount of confidence" heading toward the world championships, and adding to the series victory in New Zealand last October.
"To beat them by a small margin, a nice tight margin, is good, because it's nice to know that we can win in those circumstances," Ellis said.
"It was a great result but we could probably perform a lot better actually.
"We made some mistakes, on the transition and bringing the ball out, and we can convert better up forward."
"Now we have a two-day turnaround, playing against England who beat New Zealand by five goals, which is two more than us, so that is not going to be easy."
