Drawn games will be recognised during the regular rounds of the ANZ Championship next year, with league bosses abolishing extra time apparently to appease broadcasters.
The transtasman netball league (TTNL) board has endorsed an amendment to the rules, to allow drawn results during the round robin to stand, with each team being awarded one point.
If necessary, extra time will only be played during the conference finals and ANZ Championship finals series - as per the existing competition rules.
"Following a review of the 2014 ANZ Championship season, it became clear the league had to address the concern of the indefinite nature of extra-time and the potential impact on programming during the regular season," said the league's general manager Andy Crook.
The previous extra time rule mirrored the international regulations, which saw teams play an extra seven minutes each way if the score was drawn at the end of regular time. If the score is still level at the end of the overtime period, the match continues until one team pulls two goals clear.
