Netball: Silver Ferns open tour with easy win

KINGSTON - The Silver Ferns opened their netball tour of Jamaica with a convincing 80-41 win over a President's 12 today.

True to her word, New Zealand coach Ruth Aitken gave the 12 available players court time with everyone getting at least two quarters of play.

Amid the continual changing of combinations the Silver Ferns rolled relentlessly on to enjoy quarter advantages of 23-12, 41-17 and 57-33.

The President's team were unable to cope with the Silver Ferns' speed and impressive through-court defence.

Canterbury's Angela Evans produced a solid debut for the Silver Ferns in a game which eventually lost its structure because of the one-sided nature.

Jenny-May Coffin, recovering from a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, and Belinda Charteris, with a slight achilles tendon strain, were not considered for tonight's match.
