The sudden death of a Nelson hockey coach during a match on Saturday at Saxton Field has shocked members of the Nelson hockey community.
The coach, manager and life member of the Federal Hockey Club, was giving a team talk at half time when he collapsed on the field.
Nelson Hockey regional development manager and close friend of the man, Craig Brett, says ambulance staff were called to hockey grounds as he was unresponsive.
"They spent about three quarters of an hour trying to resuscitate him, but to no avail."
The man was well known in the hockey community and Craig says his death is a big loss to the clubs.
