Olympic silver medallist Bevan Docherty edged out Olympic champion Hamish Carter to win the national triathlon championships near Taupo today.
The pair hit the front midway through the 10km run before Docherty outsprinted Carter in the final straight in front of a big crowd in idyllic conditions at Kinloch.
Taranaki's Clark Ellice finished third.
Commonwealth Games-bound Samantha Warriner outran the field to win the women's title ahead of her fellow Games teammate Andrew Hewitt and Canadian Jill Savege.
