WELLINGTON - Six more names have been added to New Zealand's Commonwealth Games triathlon contingent to complete the team for next month's world championships in Switzerland.
The Games athletes - comprising men Hamish Carter, Bevan Docherty and Kris Gemmell and women Sam Warriner, Debbie Tanner and Andrea Hewitt - were confirmed two months ago to compete at Lausanne on September 2.
The team doubled in size today with the addition of men Shane Reed, Clarke Ellice and Terenzo Bozzone and women Evelyn Williamson, Carmel Hanley and Taryn McLeod.
Their results and cumulation of ITU World Cup points was the criteria for selection.
The consistent Reed was seventh at the World Cup race at Mexico, 12th in Japan and 15th in Edmonton.
Taranaki-based Ellice was 10th in Japan and second at the San Sebastien international triathlon in Spain.
Former two-time junior world champion Bozzone has had a series of strong performances, highlighted by his win at the Wildflower half ironman in California.
Hanly won the ITU Points Race in Echternach, Luxembourg in July, while McLeod was fifth in the same race.
Williamson was a medalist when the world championships were last held in Lausanne in 1998.
She recently won the Jinzhou Asian Cup race in China.
