KEY POINTS:
Ironman New Zealand multisport contender Kieran Doe will warm up by competing in this weekend's round of the national triathlon series in Napier.
Doe's participation will add some spice to an already impressive entry list and while his focus is very much on the Taupo endurance event a week later, he will be looking to push himself over the standard distance course.
"I like to take on a standard distance event a week out from Ironman, it has always been a good way for me to tune up for the longer race," he said.
"The swim will be hard out and I will work reasonably hard on the bike too but the run will be more about rhythm and tempo with Ironman in mind."
Doe has already enjoyed an impressive summer, winning the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman, an event that doubled as the New Zealand Long Course Championships and is likely to be in shape to push national series leader Stephen Sheldrake.
Meanwhile, women's series leader Katherine Anton was forced to pull out today with a foot injury, leaving Nicky Samuels as the obvious favourite.
