A broken bone in a foot has cost France's Fabien Barel the chance to defend his world championship downhill mountainbiking title in Rotorua this month. In a message to the organisers, Barel said he clipped a rock on a fun ride in Finland recently and went over the handlebars. He got up to find he had broken the scaphoid in his right foot. He will need three months to recover. A devastated Barel said: "What this means, is my season is over."
