The Townsville 500 weekend turned out to be trying for Volvo Polestar Racing. Scott McLaughlin continued to show strong form in qualifying with two fourth places, while his best result in the three races was sixth position.
"We qualified really well and I led the first race. But unfortunately there was a safety car session and a few things happened and we ended up falling back to sixth," said McLaughlin.
Team-mate Robert Dahlgren was on pace in qualifying, four tenths from pole position for the second race, but had 18th as best result in the races.
"My second qualifying session was good and I was in the top 10 in the final race as we had a different strategy that could have been really good. But then I had some technical problems which meant that I dropped back unfortunately," said Dahlgren.
McLaughlin ran into trouble in the second race as he was penalised for speeding in the pitlane, while the third and final longer race saw him finishing ninth.
"Unfortunately I sped coming into the pitlane. It was my mistake and I feel very sorry for the boys. But I managed to get 10 or 12 places back after that which was awesome. Then in the third race we struggled a little bit pace wise, so to end up ninth was good. You got to make the most of the bad days and we did," said McLaughlin.
