The growl of speeding cars and cheers from fans filled the streets of Hamilton yesterday at the 400 V8 Supercars race.
Some young children wore earmuffs to block out the cars' screeches while a brave few men dressed as scantily clad promo girls - fish-net stockings and all.
Ford's Mark Winterbottom beat out defending series champion Jamie Whincup's Holden in the final race of the Hamilton 400 by seven tenths of a second. Kiwi Greg Murphy in his Holden was 17th.
Yesterday was the last time the V8 Supercars series would be held in Hamilton, with Auckland's Pukekohe track looking set to host next year's event.
Holding the event in Hamilton - which the city has hosted since 2009 - has cost ratepayers about $40 million.
