New Zealand's Red Bull X-Fighter Levi Sherwood's recovery from a couple of horrendous crashes in the past is complete. Last weekend the 21-year-old put on a masterful display at Cockatoo Island, Sydney, to claim the championship and became the youngest competitor to take the million dollars and the title.
Sherwood was even on points with Thomas Page before the final but the Frenchman blew any chance of winning by crashing early in the final. The Kiwi kept a clean sheet and went on to win in all categories.
At the beginning of the seven-month title chase, Sherwood said his main aim was stay in one piece after damaging his liver, lungs, kidneys and breaking a few bones.
He won half the events staged this year - Dubai, Madrid and Sydney. At the Sydney event he outscored Eigo Sato 87.40 points to 84.50 in what was described as a near flawless run. "It's been a long series and there's been ups and downs along the way," he said.
