Motorsport: Lynn gives lofty display of racing

Toyota Racing Series driver, Briton Alex Lynn, put on a consummate display of race-car driving at Taupo over the weekend in round three of the championship.

His two race wins were unchallenged, and the weekend's results were marred only by a mistake in race two yesterday morning when he spun at the first corner.

But Lynn is made of stern stuff and commenced to monster the field from 16th to finish eighth by race end.

"It's was a great, great feeling this weekend despite race two," said Lynn. "The team have been great and given me a really fast car."

Although Nick Cassidy now leads the championship heading to Hampton Downs next weekend, he's yet to win a race, and that irks him a little. "It's great to be in the lead of the championship," said Cassidy. "The weekend wasn't perfect by a long shot, but we got some good results and some good points.

"I learned a lot from Alex this weekend and now we head to two of my strongest tracks [Hampton Downs and Manfeild]."

In yesterday's first race, Bruno Bonifacio made the most of his pole position start to just hold off Steijn Schothorst into turn one.

Man-on-fire Lynn looked to set himself up for another win until he spun midway through the first corner after coming into contact with Damon Leitch.

Up front, Bonifacio and Schothorst pulled away from defending champion Cassidy, series leader Lucas Auer and Tatiana Calderon.

Etec Motorsport has modified Calderon's pedal box to ensure she can fully utilise the brakes, and the improvement in her lap times was instantly noticeable. She couldn't quite get on to the tail of Cassidy to threaten him so settled for her best result of fifth in eight races so far.

Lynn won the first race at Taupo on Saturday by a comfortable 4.5 seconds from Cassidy and Schothorst.
