Trouble followed the 'King' Steve Kinser at WXC Speedway - Western Springs on Sunday night, finishing the race on the in-field while his countryman Jonathan Allard took victory on a drama-filled evening.
Kinser lasted just one lap before being caught up in one of many incidents in a sprintcar feature resembling somewhat of a soap opera.
"There's not a lot I could have done about that one but that's the way it goes," said the 20-time World of Outlaws champion.
Fans witnessed one of the most spectacular crashes in recent memory as Tauranga's Jarvis Tidd and Christchurch's Steve Duff Jnr walked away unscathed from a nasty tumble, while brother Jamie Duff shared a very public dispute with veteran Kerry Brocas following another collision.
As the drama unfolded behind him, 37-year-old Allard showed class in winning his second main event in a row; a very special victory for the Auckland-based Californian.
