Long-time V8 racer Angus Fogg arrived in Taupo for the last round of the BNT NZV8 series almost tasting his first New Zealand championship.
The Aucklander has chased the trophy since 2003 and finally nailed his first domestic championship with one race to spare.
"I held back a bit in the first race then let it all hang out in the second - what the hell it was good value. We went racing early and it paid off," he said.
"It's been a long time coming and finally we've got the No 1 for the side of the car. There are a lot of people to thank - too many - and they have been unbelievably good to me, on and off the track.
"It's just a great way to finish a season and we got to have some Chopper Reed moments in that last race [race two] with Jason Bargwanna.
