Auckland racer Mitch Evans topped the GP3 field during free practice at Monaco overnight.
The 17-year-old MW Arden driver's sizzling lap was seven tenths of a second quicker than his closest rival, Antonio Felix da Costa, driving for Carlin.
Evans leads the series after winning the feature race at Barcelona a fortnight ago.
It is the first time that the series has raced on the historic Monaco Grand Prix circuit, with Evans laying down an impressive 1:28.492, with da Costa managing a fastest lap of 1:29.207.
