The RS 275 negotiated the Nordschleife loop in under eight minutes. Getting a front-driving car to handle well -- especially one with a bit of grunt -- is no mean feat.
Renault Sport's cunning engineers achieved this a few years ago with the Megane RS 250 and since then havejust been cranking more power out of its two-litre engine. This has culminated in the RS 275 -- the latest grunt-bump for the wee hatch, and now the quickest two-wheel drive production car around the legendary "Green Hell".
Nurburgring's famed Nordschleife loop is one of the world's most challenging circuits, and the limited edition RS 275 Trophy-R set the new record last week, and marks the third time the company has scooped the record in go-fast Meganes.
The 7m 54.36s loop saw through the Renault Sport goal of breaking the eight-minute barrier, cementing its place as category record holder again. The Trophy-R rides on the same Cup chassis as the "normal" model, with a two-litre petrol engine making 275hp, Ohlins road/track dampers and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.
