KEY POINTS:
According to Britain's Autocar, Jaguar is developing a 500bhp V8 engine for a hardcore version of the forthcoming XF saloon.
When it's launched at the end of this year, the XF will be available with a 2.7 litre V6 diesel, a 3.0 litre V6 petrol, and the supercharged 4.2 litre V8 from the XKR.
However, it's understood that at a later stage Jaguar will introduce a brand new supercharged 5.0 litre V8 to create an XFR model.
The new engine is currently at a developmental stage and could also be used for the next Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
