Ricciardo steals show with boot drinking celebration

Lewis Hamilton was the man of the moment after victory at the German Grand Prix but second placed Daniel Ricciardo stole the spotlight on the podium with a strange celebration.

The Aussie drank champagne from his boot before producing a gaffe at the press conference.

Ricciardo was joined by Hamilton and Max Verstappen, who finished the race in third, for the press gathering and the duo were in no mood to let the Australian off lightly.

Verstappen quipped "A little bit too much champagne, that's the problem - I think he's drunk!"

Hamilton quickly followed with his own explanation suggesting "I think it was the champagne and the foot juices, I don't know, it's toxic!"

While Ricciardo's drive to the podium at Hockenheim by passing his team-mate Max Verstappen was a memorable one for Ricciardo, the Australian will be keen to forget the post-race press conference.

The 27-year-old greeted a Scottish reporter with the phrase "top of the morning to you" having mistaken the man in question for being Irish before laughter broke out in the press room.

Ricciardo, by now beaming a smile, admitted he had even planned the greeting throughout the weekend.

"I've been waiting for you to ask me a question all weekend," Ricciardo added. "And I was waiting to say that and I just blew it! Viva Scotland!"

All three drivers on the podium had reasons to be pleased with the outcome in Hockenheim.

Hamilton's victory means he now leads the drivers' standings by 19 points from Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg as F1 heads into a four-week summer break.

Meanwhile the double podium for Red Bull means the team have overhauled Ferrari for second in the constructors' championship.

"That is two weeks in a row I've been on the podium and it is great to have the race back here in Germany," Ricciardo said. "This is the first double podium for us in over a year and it is awesome to close out the first part of the season like this."

The next race is the Belgian Grand Prix on Aug. 28.
