Lewis Hamilton not happy with proposed expansion plans, threatens to quit F1

Five-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has threatened to walk away from the sport if Formula One proceeds with plans to expand future campaigns to 25 races.

Liberty Media, an American enterprise which now owns Formula One, has signalled plans to expand the brand by adding multiple new races to the already congested schedule.

The 2020 F1 season will see a new street-style race in Vietnam's capital city Hanoi, with suggestions that an extra race in the United States could be added.

However, the proposal doesn't sit well with the British Mercedes driver.

"I am not going to be here if it gets to 25 races, that's for sure," he told Mirror Sport UK

"It already feels like we are on race number 25 this year, so I don't think more races is going to be a good thing.

"I am someone that really loves racing, but the season is long, it takes a big commitment from all of us, and it is a long time away from our families.

"The seasons are getting longer, and the off-time is getting shorter, so from a competitor's point of view the turnaround is short. You start preparing for next year as soon as the season is so done, so getting your mind tuned is very difficult."

Hamilton will on Friday return to his Mercedes cockpit for the first time since claiming his fifth championship in Mexico a fortnight ago.
