KEY POINTS:
ROME - Italy's tax agency says former 250cc world champion Loris Capirossi evaded taxes in 2001-02, a source close to the case said.
Earlier this week, an agency spokesman said former MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi was being investigated for suspected tax evasion.
The agency has ruled Capirossi under-declared earned income in 2001-02 by 1.3 million euros ($1.78 million), said the source who declined to be identified.
The tax agency declined to comment.
The authorities have already accused Capirossi of under-declaring income of 12 million euros from 1995.
The 34-year-old Capirossi, a MotoGP veteran, is appealing that ruling on the portion that relates to income of nine million euros from 1995 to 2000.
The tax agency claim was "completely absurd", his manager Carlo Pernat told the ANSA news agency, adding that Capirossi lived in Monaco, not Italy.
