While many New Zealand motorsport categories struggle to maintain competitor numbers, Auckland's WxC Speedway - Western Springs opens tonight with at least 110 registered cars; 25 more than last season.
This increased field size is spread across all race classes but will be especially greater in the F2 Midget category, which will boast an extra 10 cars on the grid for the Auckland Championships.
"We're thrilled to have so many new and returning race teams with us this season, especially in the F2's as this is a category that is unique to Western Springs" said Springs promoter Bill Buckley.
"The race teams have spoken with their feet and it's great to know we have the support of the motorsport community for what will be an exciting season."
With even more competitors vying for victory at each event this summer, drivers won't be afforded the luxury of easing into the season, as they may have done in the past.
