Motorsport: Whangarei to host rally

Next year's New Zealand round of the Asia Pacific rally championship will be based in Whangarei after Rotorua had to withdraw.

Rotorua hosted the round for nine years.

But organisers were unable to find high-quality competition roads that offered the public access required to attract decent crowds.

The round is scheduled for May.
