Mark Webber will retire from professional racing at the end of the world endurance season in Bahrain next month.
The Australian believes the time is right to call quits, despite winning the title just last year in a team featuring Kiwi Brendon Hartley.
Webber plans to work as a consultant on motorsport programmes, while he will also be an ambassador.
He competed in over 200 Formula One races, winning nine. before he left the class in 2013.
