Young New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen's V8 Supercars future has been secured for the next two years at least, with the announcement today that he has re-signed with Stone Brother's Racing (SBR) until the end of 2012.
Van Gisbergen said there was no need to change a successful formula, the V8 Supercars website reported today.
The 20-year-old is currently fourth on the 2010 V8 Supercars championship standings ahead of this weekend's Hamilton 400, and is poised to become the first New Zealander to win on the Hamilton street circuit since the V8s began racing there in 2008.
"It's great to know that I'll be spending the next two years, at least, of my career with SBR in the V8s," van Gisbergen said.
"(Team co-owners) Ross and Jimmy gave me my first start in the V8 Supercars way back in 2007 and I am forever grateful for that; it was a great opportunity for me.
"We've got such great chemistry in the team. There's no reason to change; we're happy where we are (and) the results are starting to come."
Ross Stone said SBR always had confidence in van Gisbergen's capabilities, right from his V8 Supercar debut in 2007.
"He's an exciting driver to watch and displays some of the best car control I've seen over the years, particularly in the wet," Stone said.
"After three years working together, we are achieving what we set out to do, we still have a little bit more to go."
The Hamilton 400 begins with a 200km race on Saturday.
