Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen heads into this weekend's penultimate round of the V8 Supercar championship with an overall podium finish on his mind.
The 22-year-old currently sits in fourth place in the championship, but the Sandown Challenge in Melbourne will provide the perfect opportunity to make up the 14-point deficit to third-place Mark Winterbottom.
Van Gisbergen lost his long-held third position to fellow Ford driver Winterbottom after locking a brake in the first race in Tasmania last weekend and, with only 28 points separating the third, fourth and fifth drivers, there is everything to play for in Sandown.
The venue for the second-to-last series round hasn't exactly been kind to van Gisbergen in recent years, but the Stone Brothers Racing team's leading driver can draw on a breakthrough performance on the 3.1km Sandown International Raceway track in 2008.
That year, he worked his way from 17th on the grid to ninth in the opening race, and topped off the weekend with second and fourth-place finishes.
