Wellington is still in the hunt to host V8 races.
AVESCO, the company that runs the event, has held a media briefing at Auckland.
Chairman Tony Cochrane said the company is still considering Wellington as a replacement to Pukekohe.
A decision has to be made by May 12 and public submissions for the Wellington street race close next week.
There is mounting opposition to the race because of concerns about the impact on the capital's traffic and the cost to ratepayers.
Meanwhile, testing is underway at Pukekohe today for the V8 Supercars, ahead of this weekend's international meet, which is expected to draw huge crowds to the south Auckland track.
The first of the big Supercar races on the card gets underway at 3pm tomorrow, with two further races scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Pukekohe is the second of 13 rounds in the championship, the annual arm-wrestle between Ford and Holden for ultimate V8 boasting rights.
