KEY POINTS:
Team Kiwi Racing has had a nightmare start to the Hamilton 400 V8 Supercar meeting.
The team is now facing an engine swap, and will unlikely manage any laps before tomorrow's qualifying session.
Exiting the team garage for the first of this afternoon's four practices, the car stalled and would not start again. This lack of under-bonnet action was accompanied a burning smell, smoke and then a small fire.
It was caused by the 'trumpet' induction system on the racecar, which was to be driven by former NZV8 champion Kayne Scott.
The only other set of trumpets that can be used on the car don't fit the engine - meaning the only solution is to swap engines.
Scott - who has already completed laps today driving the NZV8 Fujitsu Ford - says that swapping engines will be a safer option than a quick fix to make the last part of the final practice.
