Holden's Garth Tander has qualified in pole position for the first race of round two of the V8 Supercar Championship series at Pukekohe.
Mark Skaife will start in second place, with Craig Lowndes third.
Greg Murphy has been the best of the New Zealand drivers, qualifying in ninth position.
Race one was set to get underway at 3.10pm.
Meanwhile, there was a spectacular crash in a support race this afternoon which happened just across the finish line in front of the grandstand.
Dean Fulford's Porsche GT3 and another competitor's car crashed into one another, sending one of the cars flying over the crash fence into the grandstand.
Commentator Brian Kelly says the car barrel-rolled several times and bits of it flew into the crowd. The vehicle then bounced over the crash fence and landed upside down in the grandstand.
Kelly said it was miraculous no one was hurt.
