Reigning series champion Shane van Gisbergen was the fastest on Friday practice at Symmonds Plains in Tasmania today.
The Kiwi edged Shell V Power and fellow New Zealander Fabian Coulthard by just 0.08s in posting the fastest ever practice and qualifying lap at the venue.
"We put a good set (of tyres) on at the end there but we have another practice to sort it out," said van Gisbergen.
"We were not fully happy but it was a great day and we progressed a lot."
Coulthard's teammate Scott McLaughlin was third fastest to complete a Kiwi trio atop the standings.
