WINTON - Retired Holden legend Mark Skaife is returning to the V8 Supercar series - taking part in the opening practice session on Friday at Winton Raceway.
The five-time champion has been asked to test Greg Murphy's Sprint Gas Racing Holden and provide feedback to the team.
While he won't take part in any racing this weekend, it will be the first time Skaife has been in a V8 since he retired in December last year after the last round of the 2008 series.
Three practice sessions will be held on Friday, with Skaife only allowed to drive the first which is open to drivers who don't take part regularly in the championship.
Skaife said when he announced his retirement from fulltime driving that he would make periodic appearances on the racetrack.
He is expected to drive in the Phillip Island endurance round and Bathurst 1000 in October, but is yet to announce who he will drive for.
