V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards is recovering in a Melbourne hospital following successful surgery to remove a tumour in his abdomen.
Richards remains in an induced coma, with Monday night's removal of the tumour to be followed by another minor procedure on Wednesday.
Results of tests to determine the nature of the tumour are expected next week.
The Holden driver was diagnosed with the tumour last week, and immediately stood down from the final two races of the V8 Supercar season.
His seat in the Team BOC car for last week's round at Sandown was taken by Richards' endurance co-driver Andrew Jones, who will also fill in for the season finale in Sydney next month.
