KEY POINTS:
Rallying icon Neil Allport, three-times national champion, has taken over the management of Ralliart New Zealand, the motorsport arm of Mitsubishi Motors.
Allport succeeds Morrie Chandler, who has relinquished the franchise to further his international motorsport work with the FIA, after being elected president of the World Rally Championship Commission last year.
"Morrie has made a vast contribution to rallying here and overseas for more than 20 years and his knowledge and experience have been a great asset," said Mitsubishi marketing and sales general manager Peter Wilkins.
"For the future, we see Neil Allport Motorsport taking the brand to a new level in New Zealand."
Wilkins said Allport's motorsport business in Auckland's Penrose is well positioned to accelerate Ralliart's development.
"Neil will manage all aspects of Ralliart, including Team Mitsubishi Ralliart and associated merchandising, and will be the source for all technical information on Lancer Evolution cars for all motorsport."
