Hamilton's Greg Pickerill won the rain-plagued International Sprintcar series at Western Springs with heavy showers curtailing the meeting and ending any hope of running the final race of the series and the last-race midget car feature.
Early in the evening, before the first of the rain, the sprintcar feature postponed from the previous meeting was won by Allan Wakeling (Auckland) from Tauranga's Dean Brindle. Pickerill's consistency was rewarded. He scored 72 points to head off Brindle (70) and Wakeling and Joey Saldana (USA) who were third equal with 63.
The next meeting at the Springs is on January 12, featuring the North Island TQ midget championship.
