The Bourne name will live on in the Race to the Sky event near Queenstown.
Peggy Bourne has entered this year's event on March 26-27, close to two years after her husband, Possum Bourne, New Zealand's leading rally driver, was killed following a motor accident during a pre-race course inspection.
She said entering the race was the perfect way for her to celebrate Possum's life.
"Of all the events he entered, this had a special place in his heart," she said.
Peggy Bourne recently attended a rally school to complete her competition licence and get a better understanding of how her Subaru WRX Impreza entry would handle.
"I loved it. It was an awesome experience and gave me the confidence I need to enter Race to the Sky."
Co-driver Mark Stacey will join Peggy Bourne in her debut performance.
She said she was looking forward to facing the challenge alongside Stacey, one of her late husband's co-drivers and a long-time friend.
Her support team are made up of a group of sponsors and supporters who had been close friends of Possum Bourne and his family.
