Hayden Paddon has finished a distant second best to Sebastien Ogier in their head-to-head duel to open Rally Portugal.
The reigning world champion has beaten Paddon by two point six seconds in a short stage where the two ran alongside each other for two laps at a rally cross circuit near Porto.
Ogier's time has him in the rally lead, nine tenths of a second ahead of Paddon's Hyundai team-mate Thierry [terry] Neuville.
Paddon sits seventh ahead of the eight stages on day two.
He says it was a clean, no fuss start to Rally Portugal.
