Sébastien Ogier closed on his fourth consecutive World Rally Championship title after a dominant drive to a maiden victory at the Tour de Corse on Sunday.
The Frenchman won the 10th round of the season by 46.4sec in a Volkswagen Polo R and requires 16 points from the next round in Spain to become only the fourth person to win four drivers' titles.
Kiwi Hayden Paddon finished sixth in his Hyundai. Paddon was happier with his more competitive times on Sunday's final two stages with a second-quickest time on the penultimate stage. The Kiwis closed the gap to fifth-placed Craig Breen from 37.8s to 17.5s with a measured performance in the final two stages.
"We had a much stronger finish to the rally after a tough two days," he said. "It's been a case of going back to the basics to try and find a way forward. Looking at the results from this morning's two stages, I'd say that we've made a step in the right direction. Second place on the long opening stage was much more like where we want to be. That gives us confidence as we prepare for Spain."
Thierry Neuville maintained his strong form to finish second in a Hyundai i20 with Andreas Mikkelsen third in a Polo R, a further 23.6sec back after 390.92km of twisty and bumpy asphalt mountain road action on the Mediterranean island of Corsica.
