Michael Caruso and James Moffat have steered their Nissans to the top of the charts in practice for the V8 Supercars meet in Pukekohe.
Caruso's flying lap of one minute 03.72 seconds eclipsed allcomers on the Pukekohe track which troubled many drivers with its bumps and kinks.
Title hope Craig Lowndes lost control of his Commodore halfway through the first practice session of the weekend, spinning off the circuit and careering backwards through the grass.
Lowndes posted the third-fastest time ahead of series leader Mark Winterbottom.
Shane Van Gisbergen was the quickest of the local drivers in fifth.
