Up to 13 new countries are pushing for inclusion as a World Rally Championship destination including New Zealand.
Along with New Zealand, Abu Dhabi, Canada, Chile, Croatia, India, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Northern Ireland, Russia and Turkey are readying themselves for a shot at hosting a WRC event.
FIA president Jean Todt wants a more global calendar, having expressed concern at the Euro-centric schedule.
"This is a world championship and our calendar needs to better reflect that," said Todt.
New Zealand is believed to be a strong chance of gaining a place on the 2018 WRC calendar.
