Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville holds a 45.1 second lead over four-time world champion Sebastien Ogier after day 2 of the Monte Carlo Rally.
Neuville, the teammate of Kiwi Hayden Paddon, dominated the day and will take some serious overhauling between now and the end of the rally.
Ogier, in his first start with M-Sport Ford, lost more than 40 seconds when he slid off the road and into a ditch at low speed earlier in the day. He recovered to hold down second place ahead of Estonian teammate Ott Tanak, who is less than a second behind.
Toyota's Jari-Matti Latvala ended the day fourth overall in what is a terrific return to the championship for the Japanese manufacturer after 17 years away. The Finn did have some problems however - his Toyota Yaris took a long time to start after a service break and they ran out of time to fine tune it. He also spun late in the day but will be pleased to start day 3 in fourth despite being over two minutes behind the leader.
