New Zealand V8 Supercar driver Greg Murphy is confident he will have recovered sufficiently from back surgery to compete in next week's ITM400 in Hamilton.
Murphy, who had an operation two weeks ago, had a substitute driver for the V8 Supercar round in Tasmania and the V8 Supertourers domestic competition in New Zealand last weekend.
His fellow Kiwi V8 Supercar driver Fabian Coulthard drove Murphy's car to victory in Christchurch.
But the four-time Bathurst winner is desperate to be back in the driver's seat for the sole New Zealand round of the V8 Supercars championship, which is being staged in Hamilton for the final time.
Before Shane van Gisbergen's victory in the Waikato last year, Murphy was the only New Zealander to triumph in the V8 Supercar round in this country, winning four times in five years when it was held at Pukekohe.
