KEY POINTS:
Local hero Greg Murphy is picking some surprises in V8 Supercar qualifying if the changeable weather in Hamilton continues.
Rain has already fallen this morning on the tight Hamilton street circuit, and the Tasman Motorsport driver - who was 7th fastest in yesterday's practice says a wet track is likely to cause some surprises.
"It (the weather) is pretty disappointing," he said, "I thought it was going to be fine today."
Offsider Jason Richards is still competing in the team's 'old' car, but Murphy is running the team's new Holden Commodore racecar.
"It was good yesterday in the dry," he told nzherald.co.nz, "so we were definitely hoping that it was going to be nice and dry today.
"This has really thrown all the plans out.
"But there's still more time to find."
While he says fellow Kiwi and teammate Richards is probably a bit jealous of the new car, the old car could move up the order on a damp track.
"If it's a wet track I think you'll see him move a lot further forward," said Murphy.
New Zealand youngster Shane van Gisbergen - who drives for Stone Brothers Racing - was second fastest in Friday's practice session, with Triple Eight driver Jamie Whincup setting the pace.
Qualifying is due to begin at 11:20am.
