Kiwi Le Mans winners Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber have continued their dominance in the World Endurance Championship with victory at Nurburgring.
The Kiwi duo combined with third driver Timo Bernhard to prevail in a closely fought battle with the other factory Porsche in what was a dominant day for the team.
Both Porsche 919 cars took a late fuel stop but the second car driven by Andre Lotterer, Neel Jani and Nick Tandy was held in the pits for 20 seconds longer than the Le Mans winners. It almost certainly was a planned team move to ensure they extend their championship lead.
"Our car was stronger on new tyres and the other car came on stronger later, but it was also about aero degradation - one minute we'd have the problem and then they would have it," Bamber said.
The two Porsches swapped back and forth in the lead throughout the race as both cars showed off their new high downforce aero kits.
