Citroen's Kris Meeke holds a 20.9s lead over four-time defending world champion Sebastien Ogier after the first full day of Rally Mexico.
Kiwi driver Hayden Paddon had spent much of the day in the top three before mechanical issues saw him lose the best part of two minutes on the day's final three stages to fall to seventh in his Hyundai i20.
It was a tough day for the crews with the morning loop cancelled because a road accident prevented cars from getting to the start line on time. Extremely hot temperatures then wreaked havoc with a number of drivers suffering over-heating issues.
Both Toyota drivers - Juho Hanninen and current championship leader Jari-Matti Latvala - were affected as was Meeke's Citroen teammate Stephane Lefebvre and the Fords of Ott Tanak and Elfyn Evans.
