Father's Day was a noisy one in Tokoroa yesterday, with father-and-son team Kelsey and Bjorn Malaquin among the many revving their engines at the annual go kart race in the area.
Up to 62 teams - many of them father-and-son pairs - spent a sunny, spring day at Amisfield to mark the opening of the Tokoroa Kart Club's new track.
Bjorn, 6, was right by his dad Kelsey's side, on their bright red mini-motorbike, having the time of his life.
Mum Michelle said: "He was feeling really, really excited. But he was pretty gutted he wasn't allowed to ride [on his own]."
Around 250 people turned out to cheer the teams on and to see the new track.
Club president Glenn Tremain said the track had taken about three years to complete and people were excited to finally test it out.
"The little fellas loved it," he said. "They're only knee-high and they're out there racing. This is for them."
