He may be losing his battle with an aggressive cancer but Kiwi V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards showed what he's made of yesterday, winning a Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series race in Adelaide.
The father of two put his "full-time job" of battling cancer aside, and gave an inspiring performance which earned him a standing ovation from the crowd and left his wife Charlotte in tears. Richards, 34, stopped driving last year to undergo treatment for cancer of the adrenal gland.
Since then the three-time Bathurst runner-up has had a 3.5kg tumour cut from his stomach and had two rounds of chemotherapy.
Yesterday he revealed the chemotherapy had failed and on Tuesday he hopes to head to Sydney to take part in a new worldwide drug trial. He said he decided to drive at the last minute for "just for enjoyment, so winning was an absolute bonus".
