Motorsport: Holdsworth breaks pelvis in V8s crash

Lee Holdsworth will miss the Townsville 400 after breaking his pelvis in a crash during the final Supercars race of the Darwin Triple Crown weekend.

Holdsworth's car was accidentally shoved off the track as the field exited the first corner of the race, heavily impacting a concrete wall on the passenger's side of the car.

Medical crews took their time helping Holdsworth out of the damaged car, the 33-year-old complaining of pain in his back and leg.

He was taken by ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital so his injuries could be assessed.

A CT scan revealed Holdsworth had fractured his pelvis in the impact, an injury that will rule him out of the next Supercars round in Townsville on July 8-10.

"Supercars driver Lee Holdsworth was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital this afternoon, following a crash during the opening lap of today's 200km race at the CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown," an official statement from Supercars read.

"A CT scan has revealed he suffered a fractured pelvis. He also suffered minor injuries to his chest and left elbow, but did not sustain a head injury.

"He will remain in hospital, and will miss next month's Castrol EDGE Townsville 400."

Supercars CEO James Warburton added: "All of our thoughts are with Lee, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery."
