ADELAIDE - Ford's James Courtney has claimed pole for tomorrow's opening 2007 V8 Supercar Championship race, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
Courtney's time of 1min 22.3584secs secured the first pole of his V8 Supercar career.
He will share the front row of the grid with another Ford man, Jamie Whincup, who finished a 10th of a second back.
Holden's Garth Tander and Ford's Mark Winterbottom rounded out the top four.
Tomorrow's 78-lap, 250km race will be followed by another on Sunday.
Embattled Holden Racing team owner--river Mark Skaife finished way back in 17th, failing to make the final cut in the first trial of a new qualifying system.
Qualifying is held over three 15 minute sessions, with all 31 cars on the track at the one time.
The field is culled to 20 after session one, then 10 for the final run.
